The World Poker Tour returns to the Bike for the 2011 Legends of Poker event, which is featuring a smaller buy-in this year in an attempt to re-energize one of the older stops on the WPT circuit.
The Legends of Poker event is a staple on the WPT circuit and one of the more venerable poker events in the US (founded all the way back in 1995), drawing players to the Bike Casino in LA each and every year.
The main event has typically been a $10,000 buy-in in past years but it has been reduced to $3,700 in 2011, a move that could boost attendance dramatically.
Andy Frankenberger was the winner of the 2010 Legends of Poker event (which was a $5,000 buy-in at the time), claiming $750,000 in cash on his way to eventually winning the WPT Player of the Year race for Season 9.
The WPT is experimenting with different formats for some of its US stops that have struggled with attendance in recent years, introducing late registration that extends to Day 2 as well as allowing re-entries, which will debut this year at the 2011 Legends of Poker main event.
Los Angeles is a popular stop on the tournament circuit, as it’s an attractive vacation stop and the Bike and Commerce in LA provide plenty of high stakes cash game action for players who make an early exit from tournaments.
ClubWPT (a membership site open to US players) is running online satellites for the 2011 Legends of Poker tournament, with $6,000 trips up for grabs in two different tournaments in June.
